Project Notes:
“Originally built in the 1920s, this breathtaking space features restored historic character, including high vaulted ceilings with heavy oak beams in true English Gothic style, curved bays exhibiting French influence and original Auditorium Victrola and decorative busts. The Ballroom is a uniquely beautiful interior space that is available for rent for both public and private events.” — nationalparkseminaryapts.com/ballroom
The National Park Seminary commissioned Lynchburg Stained Glass to repair the failing stained-glass clerestory windows located 4 stories above their Ballroom floor. Once surveyed, 55 original window sashes (approximately half the total number) were recommended for replacement due to rot. Replacement sashes are marked with an “x” on the plan below. Replacement sashes were fabricated using a rot resistant wood species to match the original sashes in size and configuration, the largest being approximately 30″ x 144″.
The stained-glass panels were removed from the old sashes, dismantled, cleaned, and reassembled with new lead came. This process is know as re-lead restoration.
The restored stained glass and new wood sashes were reinstalled in Fall of 2021.
