Project Notes
St. Anthony Catholic Church commissioned Lynchburg Stained Glass to provide a new, 12-ft stained-glass rose window to replace their old circle window, located behind the altar. The church requested that the design match the style of their beautiful existing nave windows: the goal was have the new rose window appear as a part of the original window program. The nave windows (example at right) were crafted using imported, mouth-blown glass, and the figures were hand-painted and kiln-fired.
LSG fashioned the new rose window by drawing inspiration from the colors and design elements of the existing windows. Additionally, like the originals, the new rose window is crafted from imported, mouth-blown glass. The result maintains a close visual consistency with the existing stained glass, and appears as though it were installed a century ago.
During the project, LSG also removed the old wooden frame and both fabricated and installed a new, energy-efficient aluminum frame to support the new rose window, including an insulated, laminated 1-inch safety glass storm covering to protect the exterior.
