Project Notes
Lynchburg Stained Glass has continued to work alongside St. James Catholic church since 2011, installing windows in phases as donors contribute to this ongoing project.
The initial stained glass, a series of figurative windows, was installed soon after construction of the new church building was completed. LSG’s artist-designers worked diligently to create compositions that incorporated detailed instructions from the church regarding each window in the program, ranging from overall scene selection, to various symbols, to text inscriptions.
The church’s “Adoration Chapel” includes both interior and exterior windows that are scheduled to be replaced with ornately patterned stained glass depicting the Holy Eucharist, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Clear glass was combined with the unique “silver stain” technique to introduce beautiful gold tones that remain largely transparent, allowing natural light to permeate the space.
