Custom-Fabricated Stained-Glass Aluminum Frames
We have two aluminum frame systems specifically designed for use with stained glass, both of which we custom design and fabricate in-house.
- 4-inch Double Glaze System: Accommodates stained glass and 1/4-inch thick clear protective storm glass.
- 5-inch Triple Glaze System: Accommodates stained glass and 1-inch thick energy efficient insulated glass.
We fabricate these systems using heavy-gauge aluminum frame material with snap-in aluminum stops for securing both the stained glass and protection glass.
Frames are available in stock colors of white and dark bronze. Custom colors are also available for a small additional charge.
Single-sourcing stained glass, protection glass, and frames ensures a smooth installation and reduces lead-time typically associated with other frame systems.
Protective Storm Coverings
Protective Storm Storm Covering Proper venting of protective storm covering is critical to the life of a stained glass window. Non-vented storm covering tends to trap heat and moisture between the covering and the stained glass. This can result in cumulative deterioration of the wooden frame and lead corrosion within the stained glass.
Venting reduces heat and moisture between the stained glass and storm covering. Proper venting takes advantage of the natural tendency of hot air to rise. As illustrated in the diagram at left, the rising hot air exhausts naturally through the top vents. The upward movement of hot air draws fresh air into the lower vents. Moisture between windows is reduced by the constant induction of fresh air. The quantity of vents should be proportionate to the size of the window. Large windows are vented at interior frame members as well as the perimeter.
Frames are fabricated of heavy gauge aluminum in our aluminum fabrication shop. Frame corners are welded and gusset reinforced. Vents feature metal bug screens. We also offer custom colors and powder coating.
Our frames are NOT fabricated onsite with flimsy material. They are heavy-duty and maintenance-free.
