Backlit Stained-Glass Cabinets
Backlighting stained-glass provides a solution when natural light is unavailable. We fabricate smaller enclosures (less than 6-ft square) as wooden cabinets, which can be hung on a sturdy wall. Generally, a hinged front allows access to the lighting element located behind the stained glass. These cabinets feature fluorescent-style lighting with a diffusing material to soften the light (eliminating the possibility of unsightly “hot-spots”). We produce cabinets in rectangular, round, and round-top shapes, custom-sized to fit the worship space. Larger back-lit installations typically utilize our aluminum window frame system. This format has removable front panels to access the lighting.
Advances in LED Lighting for Stained Glass
Recent innovations in lighting technology offer the opportunity for unique backlighting solutions. LED flat panels and LED tube-lighting offer alternatives to fluorescent fixtures and require considerably lower voltage than traditional lighting. LED systems also allow dimming and can be connected to master lighting consoles for remote operation using DX lighting controls. We provide LED flat panels in custom sizes to meet your unique requirements.
