Re-Lead Restoration
There comes a point when historic stained glass windows with brittle lead simply cannot be bettered in-place. At this point the only course is to conduct a re-lead restoration to the stained glass. Re-lead restoration is the process of dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling a historic stained glass window with new lead came. Once re-lead, the window is “like-new” in terms of anticipated years of additional service.
The image shown at right is illustrative of a stained glass window which has reached the end of its serviceable life. The stained glass is bowed, and many lead joints are broken. This window is a good candidate for re-lead restoration.
Salvaged lead from re-lead restoration project to be recycled.
